Dear Parent/Carer,

Year 8 M&G Enterprise Challenge – Monday 10th February

We are delighted to inform you that your child has been selected to participate in the M&G Enterprise Challenge, an exciting, maths-focused workshop designed to enhance key skills and competencies on Monday 10th February. This unique experience allows students to step into the role of large-scale event organisers, planning a concert for 10,000 young people while developing and applying their mathematical knowledge along the way. The workshop is carefully tailored to meet the needs of all students, ensuring they are appropriately challenged and supported to strengthen their understanding of key mathematical concepts during the session.

What will students gain from this challenge?

Students will engage in a variety of activities that not only enhance their mathematical knowledge but also develop key Approaches to Learning skills essential for success across the curriculum. Through teamwork and problem-solving challenges, they will strengthen their social and communication skills, while critical-thinking tasks will encourage self-management and thinking skills, fostering collaboration, and the ability to apply mathematical concepts in real-world contexts.

The following curriculum-linked topics will be explored:

  • Tabulating data and interpreting charts
  • Functional skills in mathematics
  • Calculating profit and loss
  • Interpreting plans and views
  • Constructing 3-D shapes from nets

We are confident that students will find the challenge both enriching and enjoyable.

On Monday 10th February, students should arrive at the academy at the usual start time of 8.25am and attend their period 1 lesson.  The workshop will be run in a classroom setting and will finish at 12.30pm. Students will then attend lunch and their period 5 lesson as usual.
