Year 7 Admissions Process 2027
There are 180 places available in Year 7 at Leigh Academy Halley for September 2027. To apply for a place at Leigh Academy Halley, you must apply through your home Local Authority.
APPLY FOR A SECONDARY SCHOOL PLACE
All students applying to Leigh Academy Halley will be invited to sit a fair banding test to ensure that children across the full ability range are admitted. It is not possible to pass or fail the test, but those not sitting the test at all will only be prioritised after those children who have sat the test. In order to be invited to the test, in addition to the local authority application form, an online supplementary form must be completed and submitted to us – if you do not have access to the internet a paper copy can be returned directly to the academy. This must be done by the closing date of 31st October 2026.

All potential applicants are invited to attend an Open Evening on Thursday 20th November 2025. An application form should be completed and submitted to the academy by February 2026. Applicants will be invited to discuss their curriculum choices with a senior member of staff to establish whether a suitable programme of study course is available to them. This discussion does not form part of the decision-making process on whether to offer a place.
An offer will be made on the condition that the applicant achieves the examination grades required for enrolment onto each of the courses which they have chosen (these can be found within the Sixth Form Prospectus). Applicants with conditional offers will be invited to attend an orientation day in the summer term. Where applicants have achieved the required grades enrolment will take place in August following publication of the GCSE results.
Application forms will be available at the open evenings or can be downloaded below. Students who wish to apply for Leigh Academy Halley Sixth Form should apply to the Academy directly.
Appeal Dates & Information Academic year 2026/2027
If you have not been offered a place following an in-year application, you are entitled to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel. This panel is completely independent of the school and the Local Authority. In accordance with the 2022 School Admission Appeals Code, the admission authority and all appeal panels have elected for all admissions appeals to be held online. Online appeals have the advantage of being heard from your home or place of work. No longer do you have to travel to a hearing.
If you wish to appeal, please use this link to complete your appeal online. Please do NOT use ANY other appeal form or send your form to your local authority. It is highly recommended that you download the explanatory booklet about appeals which you should read before you complete the appeal form.
For 6th form appeals an Appeal form can be downloaded on this link
You should include any evidence or supporting material with your appeal form (photos of your child will not be accepted). You MUST state the grounds of your appeal at the time you lodge your appeal form. Your appeal form will not be accepted unless you give the grounds of your appeal. You may appeal for more than one school, but a separate form must be completed for each school you wish to appeal for. If you are appealing for more than one child, a separate form must be completed for each child and use a different email address.
Please note that the online form will ask you to download two utility bills dated in the last THREE months. If you do not have access to a scanner, please take two photographs using a mobile phone and upload the photographic files.
If you wish to contact the clerk – email : clerk@educationappeals.com
