Dear Parent/Carer

Student Council at Leigh Academy Halley

We are delighted to announce the launch of the Student Council at Leigh Academy Halley, which will commence at the start of Module 3. This exciting initiative aims to empower our students by providing opportunities to develop leadership skills while fostering a stronger, more inclusive Academy community.

Our newly selected Student Council will be aspirational and motivated role models, embodying the values of respect, resilience, and integrity. They will collaborate in various leadership roles to help drive positive change and continuously improve our Academy environment.

The focus of our Student Council revolves around three key objectives:

  • Encouraging Responsibility and Participation – We aim to inspire students across Leigh Academy Halley to take on additional responsibilities and become active participants in the life of the Academy, leading student-driven initiatives that benefit our entire community.
  • Developing Leadership Skills – The initiative will provide students with the necessary tools and experiences to grow as leaders, helping them develop vital skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Engagement and Accountability – We believe that all students should have the opportunity to be involved in the leadership and student voice process. Our student leaders will be visible, accessible, and accountable, ensuring all voices are heard and respected across the Academy.

The Student Council will continue its fundraising initiatives for the Year 11 prom and various charitable causes. These fundraising efforts are a vital part of the council’s mission to give back and support those in need.

In addition to their fundraising work, the council members will receive specialised training to become mentors, supporting younger students in their reading and maths development. This mentorship programme will empower students to share their knowledge and help others thrive academically.

The Student Council will also establish a social action group focused on improving the Academy and its surrounding community. Through regular meetings, the members will collaborate on new ideas and take action to create a more inclusive and positive environment for all students.

We are confident that the launch of this initiative will make a meaningful impact on our Academy, and we look forward to seeing the growth and development of students as they take on these important roles. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the Student Council initiatives, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Yours faithfully,
Kim Loan Nguyen-Quan | Deputy Head of Turing School
