This morning, Leigh Academy Halley was delighted to celebrate the achievements of its Year 13 BTEC and T Level students as they collected their results.

Approaching a third of all results were awarded at the top grades of Distinction and Distinction*, a significant increase from 18% last year. This was achieved with the number of candidates almost doubling compared with previous years. The average point score in the Core T Level examinations has also improved on last year.

With all Year 13 IB, BTEC and T Level results now confirmed, the academy is forecasting a positive value-added score across all academic, applied general and technical pathways.

Ben Russell, Principal of Leigh Academy Halley, said: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students, and of the increase in top grades our students have achieved this year, alongside a growing cohort sitting a wide range of academic, applied general and technical courses. These results are testament to the hard work and resilience of our students, and to the dedication of the staff who have supported them, not just this year, but throughout their time with us. Thank you to everybody who has made this possible.”

James Cowie, Head of Hawking School, said: “Our students should be enormously proud of what they have achieved. Across our IB, IBCP, T Level and vocational programmes, they have shown outstanding commitment, resilience and ambition. Their results, and the destinations they are now moving on to, reflect the high-quality teaching and pastoral care they have received throughout their time at Hawking School. We wish them every success in the next stage of their journey.”

Particular success stories include:

  • Son achieved a grade 6 in history, a grade 5 in art and a grade 4 in biology. He will be studying Animation at Ravensbourne University.
  • Luke achieved a Merit overall in T Level engineering. He will be starting an apprenticeship in engineering.
  • Collins achieved Distinction grades in business and sport, and a Distinction* in IT. He will be studying Cybersecurity and Computer Forensics at Canterbury Christ Church University.
  • Abraham achieved Distinctions across business, IT and sport. He will be studying sports management at Canterbury Christ Church University.
  • Samia achieved a grade 6 in psychology, a grade 5 in English and a grade C in criminology. She will be going on to Royal Holloway to study Comparative Literature and Culture and English.
  • Diego achieved a Distinction* in BTEC engineering, grade 5s in both mathematics and physics, and an A in his reflective project. He will be studying Astronautics and Space Engineering at the University of Surrey.
  • Imogen achieved a grade 5 in English, a grade 5 in biology, a grade 5 in psychology, a grade B in criminology and a grade B in her reflective project. She will be studying Forensic Science at Anglia Ruskin University.

These excellent results have seen our students secure a fantastic array of post-18 destinations. This includes some of the top universities nationally, including Southampton, Surrey, Leicester and Kent, with many of our students being the first in their families to progress to higher education.

These results build on Ofsted’s recognition of Leigh Academy Halley as a national centre of excellence. Following its inspection in the Autumn of 2025, one of the first carried out under Ofsted’s new, more rigorous inspection framework, the academy was awarded the rare “Exceptional” judgement in five areas of academy life, including post-16 provision. Inspectors found that the academy’s post-16 provision has a transformational effect on preparing students for their next steps and for adult life.

This year’s outcomes, and the strength of the destinations students are moving on to, reflect that judgement in practice.
