Dear Parents/Carers,
This year, Cultural Capital Day is held on Wednesday 4th December. Cultural Capital Day is dedicated to providing enriching educational experiences for Year 12 students and supporting Year 13 students as they focus on their mock exam fortnight. Please see below for details specific to each year group.
Year 12 – Visit to the University of Southampton
Year 12 students, except those enrolled in BTEC Sport, will be visiting the prestigious Russell Group University, the University of Southampton. This visit is an excellent opportunity for students to explore university life and gain insights into higher education pathways.

- Date: Wednesday 4th December 2024
- Arrival at Leigh Halley Academy: Students must arrive at 8:20am for registration
- Departure: Leave promptly at 8:30am
- Travel: By coach (at no cost to students)
- Return: We expect to return to the Academy between 3:00pm and 3:30pm
Students must wear appropriate clothing for the weather, and bring a notebook, a pen, and a packed lunch (although food may also be available to purchase at the university). Students entitled to free school meals will be provided with a packed lunch.
Year 12 BTEC Sport – First Aid Course
All Year 12 students enrolled in BTEC Sport will remain on-site to complete a bespoke First Aid course, which directly supports their curriculum.
Key details for the course:
- Date: Wednesday 4th December 2024
- Time: 9:45 am – 12:15 pm
- Dismissal: Students will be dismissed before lunchtime and will not need to attend the Academy for the remainder of the day. Students entitled free school meals will be provided with a packed lunch.
Year 13 – Mock Exam Fortnight
As Year 13 students focus on their Mock Exam fortnight, the following arrangements will be in place:
Students who have an exam on Wednesday 4th December (BTEC Applied Sciences – 8.30am – 11.00am and IB English – 11.30am – 1.30am) must attend school for the timings of their exams. All other Year 13 students are permitted to revise or work from home on this day.
These arrangements will enable students to maximise their learning and preparation in a way that best suits the current stage of their studies.
If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact hawking@halley.latrust.org.uk.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours faithfully,
Mr James Cowie
