Dear parents and carers
RE: appointment of a new Principal for Leigh Academy Halley.
A few weeks ago I wrote to you about Mr Russell’s appointment to the Leigh Academies Trust central team, which takes effect in September. I explained that he will remain firmly connected to Leigh Academy Halley as the central team’s main executive link. I can now confirm that we have appointed a new Principal for Leigh Academy Halley to start in September. The successful candidate is Ms Debra Watling.
Ms Watling joined Halley last July and has been an exceptional appointment to the team. As she is already working at the academy as Deputy Principal it means that the transition between her and Mr Russell will be seamless, causing minimum disruption for students, staff and families. Ms Watling’s appointment gives us the opportunity to make some further internal changes to the senior leadership team. Mr Russell will write to you about those once they have been confirmed.
Leigh Academy Halley is already one of the most successful schools in England and is oversubscribed for places in year 7. Under Ms Watling’s leadership, and with continued support from Mr Russell, we have no doubt it will keep on getting better and better. We value all of your support.
Yours faithfully,
Simon Beamish
Chief Executive
