Dear Parent/Carer,

Year 10 Work Experience Week – Monday 13th – Friday 17th July 2025

I am excited to inform you that our Year 10 students will be undertaking a week of Work Experience, taking place during our usual Cultural Capital week, from Monday 13th to Friday 17th July. All Year 10 students are expected to immerse themselves in a workplace for a full five days during this week.

Why Work Experience Matters

Work experience is an integral part of your child’s education, offering a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. The benefits of work experience include:

  • Career Exploration: Students gain first-hand exposure to various industries, helping them make informed decisions about their future career paths.
  • Skill Development: Work experience hones essential skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management – skills crucial for success in any professional environment.
  • Networking Opportunities: Building connections with professionals in the field allows students to expand their network and gain valuable insights into the industry.
  • Confidence Building: Engaging in a real work environment boosts self-confidence and provides a sense of accomplishment, empowering students to set higher goals for themselves.

Securing a placement and logging the placement on Unifrog

Students are encouraged to speak to family members, friends, neighbours, local primary schools, and businesses to help secure a placement. At this stage in our students’ academic journey, any placement will be beneficial in terms of building skills and confidence as they move into Year 11 and beyond. Students will receive support from their tutor in finding and securing placements. If you or someone you know can offer a placement, we would greatly appreciate your assistance. By hosting a student, you will be playing a crucial role in their educational and professional development.

Once a placement is confirmed, students must log the details on Unifrog, our online careers platform. This platform allows us to ensure all relevant checks are completed before the placement takes place, including workplace and family consent.

To log their placement on Unifrog, students will need:

  • Contact name and email address for their workplace contact
  • Business name and address
  • Parent/carer email address

Once a placement has been logged on Unifrog, the following steps take place:

  1. The employer will be emailed to confirm the details and upload their insurance and safety documents
  2. The placement will be emailed to parents/carers via Unifrog for approval
  3. Final approval will be given by me in my role as Work Experience Coordinator

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at isabel.ruthven@halley.latrust.org.uk.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students prepare for their future pathways.

Yours faithfully,

Ms I Ruthven
