Dear Parents and Carers,

Student Assessment and Reporting Information for the Academic Year 2025 – 2026

We are writing to outline our approach to student assessment and reporting for the current academic year. We believe that clear communication about your child’s learning progress is essential for their success, and we aim to work in partnership with you to support their development.

Our Approach to Assessment

Throughout the year, your child’s learning will be assessed through a variety of methods. These assessments help us understand what students have mastered and where they need more support:

  • Formative Assessment: This occurs during the learning process. It includes regular classroom activities, observations, questioning, and short quizzes. It provides immediate feedback to students and teachers to guide the next steps in teaching.
  • Summative Assessment: This occurs at the end of a significant period of learning, such as a topic, unit, or term. This may include tests, projects, essays, or practical examinations, and is used to summarise a student’s overall achievement against the curriculum standards.

Assessment and Reporting in Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11)

As your child progresses through their GCSEs in Key Stage 4 (KS4), our reporting becomes more focused on tracking their progress towards final examination grades.

Year 10

  1. In module 4 you will receive a report showing your child’s Current Grade, Forecast Grade and Commitment to Learning Grade.
  2. In Module 6 students will sit their Mock Examinations in all subjects.
  3. In Module 6 you will receive a report showing your child’s Mock Grade, Forecast Grade and Commitment to Learning Grade.

Year 11

  1. In Module 1 you will receive a report showing the Current Working Grade, Forecast Grade and Commitment to Learning Grade.
  2. In Module 2 students will sit their first set of Mock Examinations in all subjects.
  3. In Module 3 you will receive a report showing your child’s Mock Grade, Forecast Grade and Commitment to Learning Grade.
  4. In Module 4 students will sit their second set of Mock Examinations in all subjects.
  5. In Module 5 you will receive a report showing your child’s Mock Grade, Forecast Grade and Commitment to Learning Grade.
  6. GCSE exams will start at the end of Module 4.

Through this reporting system, you will be provided with data that includes:

  • Commitment to Learning scores/grades.
  • Current Working Grades (an estimate of what they would achieve based on current performance).
  • Mock Examination Grades following the internal mock examination assessments across all GCSE subjects.
  • Forecast Grades showing the most likely grade your child will achieve at the end of Year 11 based on how they are working now.

How You Can Help

Your support is essential for your child’s success, particularly in KS4. We encourage you to:

  1. Discuss the reports and feedback with your child, celebrating their successes and working on areas for growth.
  2. Attend Parents  Evenings to get specific strategies from teachers on how to support revision and study habits at home.
  3. Encourage a positive attitude towards all forms of assessment, including the mock examinations, which are vital practice for final exams.
  4. Contact the school if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s assessments or reporting. The best first point of contact is the respective small school using the email addresses overleaf.
