Dear Parent/Carer,

Stratford-Upon-Avon, Wednesday 15th – Thursday 16th July 2026

France – Monday 13th July – Friday 17th July 2026

Iceland – Monday 13th July – Friday 17th July 2026

Across the academic year, Leigh Academy Halley leads several residential trips to locations in the United Kingdom, and international cities. We believe that trips and visits provide students with enriching experiences and opportunities to take part in exciting activities beyond the classroom, in line with National Curriculum guidance.

Throughout Cultural Capital week in July (Monday 13th to Friday 17th July), there are three residential trips available to Year 8, 9 and 10 students. All these trips fall on the same week beginning 13th July to Friday 17th July, therefore, students will not be able to attend more than one trip that week. Students not attending any of these trips will be taking part in a range of other exciting and rewarding activities during Cultural Capital Week in July.  These activities will be advertised later in this academic year.

Year 10 students wishing to attend one of these trips may be permitted to undertake work experience in the week prior to Cultural Capital Week. Parents can contact their child’s Small School to discuss this further.

The objectives of these trips align with our Middle Years Programme, International Baccalaureate, values and ethos, and we intend to offer students studying at the Academy real-life knowledge of global contexts and cultures. Across all the trips on offer to your child, they will:

  • Explore historical sites firsthand
  • Broaden their understanding of key historical events
  • Enhance their cultural and historical contextual knowledge

  • Petrifying Caves (Savonnieres)
  • Parc Futuroscope

Students will stay at a local hotel in Loire & West France. This will ensure a fully interactive experience for students purchasing and enjoying the French dining culture. Students will stay in single-sex rooms.

We will be travelling by coach and ferry, and so all students will need to have a valid passport with at least 3 months left before expiry, a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) and a permanent leave to remain card, if applicable.  Parents are responsible for applying for and obtaining relevant visa documents, in addition to providing staff accompanying this trip with their child’s right to remain documentation.

The cost of this trip is £750, which does not include money for snacks and additional drinks, across the 4 night stay. An estimated cost for drinks and snacks per day is between 10 and 20 Euros, therefore we would advise that students travel with enough money to cover these additions. As all of these exciting residential trips are offered as reward trips (due to the trip taking place during term time), your child’s place will be dependent on the criteria detailed below being met:

  • Attendance must exceed 95%. Periods of illness caused by COVID or other medical needs may be considered.
  • Students must be on target in the majority of subjects and if this is not the case they must be engaged with relevant interventions/homework to move towards their targets. Students who are not reaching their target grade may attend the trip if staff acknowledge that the student is working hard in all their lessons.
  • Students must have a good behaviour record with minimal behaviour points and no severe sanctions such as referrals to The Compass or suspensions. An accumulation of sanctions such as Academy Leadership Team detentions will also result in students not being able to attend the trip.

If you would like your child to attend any of these trips, please visit your ParentPay account to make a deposit payment.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Academy if you have any questions about these trips.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs H. Panton | Deputy Head of Turing School
