Dear Parent/Carer,

At the end of Module 4, the Academy will take part in the second of three Cultural Capital events this academic year. Our Cultural Capital days and week (at the end of the academic year), offer unique opportunities for students to participate in exciting activities in line with National Curriculum guidance.

Students in Year 9 will be taking part in First Give workshops as part of their Cultural Capital day on Wednesday 25th March.

The First Give is a charitable organisation that runs several community and charity based programmes. The charity offers young people the opportunity and platform to make a real, tangible difference to their communities through social action, and in doing so gain wider benefits. In Module 6, Year 9 students will engage in presentations and lead on a charitable endeavor culminating in a public presentation in front of Academy and Greenwich Borough officials.

Through the workshops, students will gain a feeling of agency and usefulness through teamwork and collaboration skills; practise public speaking and project planning; demonstrate leadership, empathy; and improve self-esteem and self-efficacy. This wealth of skills and attributes are proven to contribute to better wellbeing, as well as being vital skills for future employment.

Attendance to the Academy on this day is compulsory. Students are to arrive at the usual time of 8.20am, in full Academy uniform. In a change from the usual times of the day, Year 9 students will have breaktime from 9.35am to 9.55am and their usual lunchtime at 12.45pm to 1.15pm. Those in receipt of a free school meal will be provided with lunch. Students will be dismissed at the usual time of 2.20pm.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email your child’s small school team

Yours faithfully,

Mrs H. Panton
