Dear Parent/Carer

Year 9 Cultural Capital Week: Monday 14th July – Friday 18th July

In the penultimate week of module 6, between Monday 14th July and Friday 18th July, the normal student timetable will be suspended and students will be engaged in a variety of experiences throughout the week, curated to complement their learning across this year and into the next academic year.

A number of students will be attending the Key Stage 3 and 4 Berlin residential trip that week. We wish these students a bon voyage and look forward to hearing about their German adventures when they return. All other students are expected to attend the Academy as usual. For many of the activities planned across this week, students will work in groups on interdisciplinary projects that will help them to develop a range of skills and the characteristics of the MYP Learner Profile ultimately preparing Year 9 students for the beginning of GCSE studies in September. All students will visit London’s Hyde Park to explore the Capital’s role in justice and protest. All Year 9 will also explore the role of politics and public speaking through either a visit to London’s City Hall or through a workshop delivered by the Speakers Trust.

For activities that take place on-site, students will follow an adjusted structure and timings of the Academy day, including possible changes to lunch and break times, all of which will be communicated to students ahead of time.

Where there are costs to trips such as to the Gravity Trampoline Park or Adventure Island, this has been detailed in the schedule below. All payments are to be made on ParentPay. All trips are on a first-come-first-served basis and are non-refundable or transferable. Bookings for trips will go live on Monday 2nd June.
