Dear Parents/Carers, 

Relationships and Sex Education

As a part of your child’s education at Leigh Academy Halley, we promote personal well-being and development through a comprehensive Values Education Programme that is taught primarily in our tutor periods. Our Values Curriculum is the subject that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.

I am writing to let you know that for five weeks in module 5 your child’s class will be taking part in lessons that will focus on the relationships and sex education (RSE) aspect of this programme. RSE lessons in Year 7 will include teaching about puberty, personal hygiene, changing feelings and becoming more independent.  Students will also have opportunities to ask questions that help prepare them for relationships of all kinds in the modern world. Values education is taught throughout the Academy in every year group. Please explore the Academy’s RSE Policy for more details about our Values Curriculum. All values teaching will take place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values.

RSE lessons in Year 8 will include teaching about types of relationships, relating to others, healthy relationships, unhealthy relationships, online influences, social media and sexual consent. Students will also have opportunities to ask questions that help prepare them for relationships of all kinds in the modern world. All values teaching will take place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values.

RSE lessons in Year 9 will include teaching about sexual intimacy, sexual consent, sexual relationships, sexual health, contraception, pregnancy and pornography. Students will also have opportunities to ask questions that help prepare them for relationships of all kinds in the modern world. RSE lessons in Year 10 will include teaching about sexual health, sexual activity, sexual images, STIs, pregnancy, fertility and miscarriage. Students will also have opportunities to ask questions that help prepare them for relationships of all kinds in the modern world. I am writing to let you know that for five weeks in module 5 your child’s class will be taking part in lessons that will focus on the relationships and sex education (RSE) aspect of this programme. RSE lessons in Year 11 will include teaching about characteristics of positive, healthy relationships, relationships, unhealthy relationships, diversity in sexual attraction, pornography, online relationships and changing relationships.  Students will also have opportunities to ask questions that help prepare them for relationships of all kinds in the modern world. All values teaching will take place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values. 

I am writing to let you know that for five weeks in module 5 your child’s class will be taking part in lessons that will focus on the relationships and sex education (RSE) aspect of this programme. RSE lessons in Year 12 will include teaching about contraception in different contexts and relationships, STIs, responsibility for sexual health, local and national advice, diagnosis and treatment, moral and legal responsibilities of someone seeking consent, emotional, physical, social and legal consequences of failing to respect others’ rights, sexual abuse, exploitation, assault or rape and reporting to authorities. Students will also have opportunities to ask questions that help prepare them for relationships of all kinds in the modern world.  Values education is taught throughout the Academy in every year group. All values teaching will take place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values. 

I am writing to let you know that for five weeks in module 5 your child’s class will be taking part in lessons that will focus on the relationships and sex education (RSE) aspect of this programme. RSE lessons in Year 13 will include teaching about healthy relationships, unintended pregnancy and young parenthood, contraception, abuse within relationships, harassment and stalking, alcohol and drug use, the impact of alcohol and drug use on road safety, workplace safety, reputation and career and passenger safety whilst with an intoxicated driver. Students will also have opportunities to ask questions that help prepare them for relationships of all kinds in the modern world.
